Why Bing Webmaster Tools Is Now Your ChatGPT Visibility Dashboard

Bing Webmaster Tools is no longer the sleepy dashboard you forgot after setting up Google Search Console.

It is now one of the closest things an operator has to a ChatGPT visibility dashboard. Not because it shows every answer ChatGPT gives. It does not. Because the path into AI answers still starts with a basic question: can the system find, understand, and trust your pages?

Are You Visible gets businesses found when their customers ask AI who to choose. That work starts before anyone argues about prompts. It starts with whether the page exists in the places AI systems can retrieve from.

Why does Bing matter for ChatGPT visibility?

Bing matters because AI answers need retrievable evidence.

OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot is used to surface websites in ChatGPT search features. Microsoft says Bing Webmaster Tools now reports how publisher content appears across Microsoft Copilot, Bing AI summaries, and selected partner AI experiences.

That makes Bing Webmaster Tools boring in exactly the useful way.

A wedding venue in Chicago does not need another dashboard full of abstract AI scores. It needs to know whether its ceremony page, pricing page, reviews page, directions page, and FAQ page are indexed, crawlable, and clear enough to be used as evidence when someone asks where to book.

What should you check inside Bing Webmaster Tools?

Check the pages that answer the questions a buyer actually asks before contacting you.

Start with index coverage. If Bing has not indexed the page, treat that as a visibility problem. Then check the pages appearing in AI Performance, especially cited pages and grounding queries. Grounding queries are the phrases AI systems used when retrieving source material for an answer.

Do not read citation data as a ranking. Microsoft says citation activity is observational, not a scoreboard. Read it as a clue about which pages are useful enough to be pulled into an answer.

What should you do this week?

Open Bing Webmaster Tools and pick one money page.

Then open a Temporary Chat in ChatGPT and ask the question your buyer would ask. Use the city, the service, and the comparison language. Something like: “best wedding venues in Chicago for a winter ceremony.”

Compare the answer with the Bing data.

If the page is not indexed, fix discovery. If the page is indexed but thin, add the facts a buyer needs before calling. Capacity, location, proof, pricing signals, reviews, constraints, and reasons to choose you.

That is not a guarantee the assistant names you.

It is the minimum condition for being a serious candidate.
